Selection Procedure

Phase 1: Online Examination (First Stage)
The first stage is an online examination conducted by ESB, Bhopal.

Examination Details:

• Mode and Type: Online Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) in Hindi.
• Duration and Marks: 2 hours, 100 marks.
• Marking Scheme: +1 mark for each correct answer; no negative marking.
• Syllabus/Sections:
  1. General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning – 40 marks
  2. Intellectual Ability and Mental Aptitude – 30 marks
  3. Science and Simple Arithmetic – 30 marks

Shortlisting for Second Stage:

• Candidates are shortlisted based on their Percentile Score.
• Number of candidates selected = 7 times the total vacancies in each category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS).
• Candidates scoring the same Percentile as the cut-off will also be called, even if exceeding seven times the vacancies.
• The cut-off Percentile is dynamic and cannot be predetermined.
• Horizontal categories (Female, Ex-Servicemen) share the same cut-off as their vertical category.

Phase 2: Document Verification and Practical/Skill Examination (Second Stage)

Practical Examination:

• Subedar (Confidential/Stenographer):
  • Two Hindi Shorthand dictations at 100 words/minute for 5 minutes each.
  • 5 minutes to read and draft shorthand notes.
  • Typing each dictation transcript in 20 minutes.
  • Marks: Dictation – 10 marks each, Transcription – 40 marks each.
• Assistant Sub-Inspector (Confidential):
  • Two Hindi paragraphs of 600 words each.
  • Typing time: 30 minutes per paragraph.
  • Marks: 50 marks per paragraph (total 100 marks).
  • Assessment based on errors (omissions, additions, changes, spacing, spelling).

Physical Standards Test (PST):

• Minimum height: Male – 162 cm, Female – 152 cm.
• Chest measurement is not applicable.
• No relaxation is allowed.

Medical Examination:

• Conducted by a District Medical Board, including vision, knock-knees, flat feet, and general fitness.
• Appeals possible at Divisional and State Level Medical Boards.

Document Verification:

• Conducted at the examination center in Bhopal by the Police Headquarters Selection Committee.
• Verification of original certificates (age, education, domicile, reservation, etc.) is mandatory.

Final Selection and Appointment:

• Merit List: Based on combined marks of the Online Examination (Phase 1) and Practical Examination (Phase 2). Only candidates clearing minimum qualifying marks and document verification are considered.
• Tie-Breaking: Older candidates are ranked higher in case of equal total Percentile scores.
• Character Verification: Appointment is subject to satisfactory verification by the Home Department.
• Probation and Training: Selected candidates undergo a three-year probation and mandatory training.
