Selection Procedure for the Second Inter Level Joint Competitive Examination

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination

1. Written Examination Stages

A. Preliminary Examination (P.T.)
  • When Conducted: If more than 40,000 applications are received.
  • Mode: Online (CBT) or Offline (OMR-based).
  • Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Subjects Covered:
    1. General Studies
    2. General Science & Mathematics
    3. Mental Ability / Reasoning / Comprehension

Exam Details:

  • Total Questions: 150
  • Marks per Question: 4
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark for each wrong answer
  • Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes

Book-Based Exam:
Candidates may bring one textbook per subject (General Studies, Mathematics, and General Science).
Only textbooks published by NCERT, BSEB, ICSE, or other recognized boards are allowed. Guides, photocopies, and notes are strictly prohibited.

Shortlisting for Mains:
Candidates equal to 5 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination based on the Preliminary Exam results.


B. Main Examination
  • Conducted for candidates shortlisted from the Preliminary Exam.
  • A separate advertisement will be issued for this stage.
  • Candidates will be required to fill post preferences during the Main Examination process.

2. Minimum Qualifying Marks

Candidates must score at least the minimum qualifying marks to be eligible for selection.

3. Post-Written Examination Stages

A. Typing / Computer Skill Test

  • Conducted after the Main Examination.
  • Applicable to posts that require computer or typing proficiency (Hindi/English).
  • Detailed instructions will be released later.
  • Candidates must possess the required skills by the last date of application.

B. Weightage for Contract Employees

  • Contract employees (appointed by the Bihar Government) are eligible for additional weightage.
  • 5 marks per completed year of satisfactory service (up to a maximum of 25 marks).
  • This weightage applies to both Preliminary and Main Examinations.

C. Document Verification

  • Candidates must present all original certificates (Educational, Caste, Domicile, Typing/Technical, etc.).
  • Only documents issued by or before the last date of application will be accepted.
  • Eligibility is finalized after verification by the Commission.

4. Final Merit List and Tie-Breaking Rules

  • The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the examination stages.
  • Tie-breaking criteria:
    1. Candidate with the older date of birth will rank higher.
    2. If marks and date of birth are the same, ranking will be done based on the alphabetical order (A–Z) of the candidate’s name.
