Eligibility Details
- Intermediate (10+2) passed or equivalent (ITI 2-year / Polytechnic 3-year / Provisional Certificate).
- Technical Skills: Hindi & English Shorthand and Typing; minimum speeds – Hindi Shorthand 80 wpm, Hindi & English Typing 30 wpm; basic computer proficiency required.
Selection Procedure for Stenographer/Steno-typist Grade-III
1. Stages of Selection
- Preliminary Examination (Written Test) – Objective-type test
- Practical/Skill Test – Qualifying test in Shorthand, Typing, and Computer skills
2. Preliminary Examination (Written Test)
- Number of Questions: 150
- Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
- Marking Scheme: +4 for correct, -1 for wrong answer
- Language: Hindi and English
- Subjects:
- General Studies: Current affairs, history, geography, economics, Indian Constitution, Bihar’s contribution to national movement, Panchayati Raj, Five-Year Plans
- General Science & Mathematics: Matric-level Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computers, and basic arithmetic (percentage, ratio, profit & loss, average, etc.)
- Mental Ability Test: Reasoning, problem-solving, visual and verbal reasoning, coding-decoding, number series, observation, and analysis

4. Practical/Skill Test Selection
- Candidates qualifying the written test will be shortlisted for the practical/skill test
- Number of candidates selected: 5 times the total vacancies
5. Practical/Skill Test Requirements
- Hindi Shorthand: Minimum 80 wpm (320 words in 4 minutes + 1 minute adjustment)
- Transcription Time: Additional 20 minutes for correction
- Hindi Typing: Minimum 30 wpm (300 words in 10 minutes) using Remington Gail Keyboard Layout
- English Typing: Minimum 30 wpm (300 words in 10 minutes) using UTF-8 English (US) Keyboard Layout
- Candidates failing to meet the speed standards will be considered unsuccessful
6. Final Merit List
- Prepared based on written exam marks
- Candidates’ preferences for departments/offices will be considered
- Names arranged in ascending alphabetical order (A to Z)

How to apply for BPSC Stenographer Recruitment 2025
- Visit Official Website: Go to bssc.bihar.gov.in to apply online.
- Register and Pay Fee:
- Register first on the website.
- Pay the exam fee online via Credit/Debit Card, UPI, or Net Banking.
- Fee must be paid by 03.11.2025. Applications with unpaid fees will be invalid.
- Fill Application Form: Complete the online form after fee payment.
- Upload Documents:
- Upload all required certificates (educational, technical, caste, EWS, disability, etc.) issued by the last date.
- Upload passport-size photo and scanned Hindi & English signatures.
- Fill reservation category correctly if applicable.
- Scribe Option (for PwBD candidates): Indicate if a scribe is needed for visually impaired or orthopedically handicapped candidates.
- Preview and Submit: Check all details before final submission. Once submitted, no edits are allowed.
